The butler and the baker – Genesis 40

Joseph stayed in prison.
Pharaoh the king of Egypt
was angry with two of his servants.
They were the butler and the baker.
Pharaoh put them in prison with Joseph.

The butler and the baker had dreams.
They did not know what the dreams meant.
They were sad. Joseph asked why.
They told Joseph about their dreams.

This is what the butler dreamt.
He saw a vine with three branches.
The vine flowered. There were lots of grapes.
The butler picked them.
He put some grape juice into the king’s cup.
Joseph told the butler what the dream meant.
After three days Pharaoh would set him free.
He would give him his job again.
The butler was very happy.
Joseph said, “Remember me when you are free.”

Then the baker told Joseph his dream.
He had three baskets of bread.
The birds came and ate the bread.
Joseph told the baker what the dream meant.
After three days Pharaoh would punish him.
The baker would die.

It was Pharaoh’s birthday three days later.
He freed the butler and gave him his job back.
He put the baker to death.

The butler forgot about Joseph.
