The Christians in Galatia are listening to Wrong Ideas

The good news about Christ has not changed since Paul came to the Galatians

Introduction

In the first study, we learnt that God himself had sent Paul. God had shown Paul the truth about Christ. And Paul had to speak this truth.

Paul’s words to the new Christians in today’s study are not soft and kind. He had not told them wrong ideas about Christ. He had told them God’s true message. He had not told them his own ideas.

But new teachers had come to Galatia. These teachers had wrong ideas about Christ. Some of the new Christians listened to the wrong teachers. And they wanted to obey them.

Paul is very sad and also very disappointed. The truth about Christ is the same for everyone.

What the wrong teachers have said is not yet clear. But later in this letter, it becomes clear.

1:6 ~ What does Paul think about what has happened?
Why would he think like this?

1:7 ~ What have the new teachers done with the *good news about Christ? And what do the Christians in Galatia think about the new message?

1:8-9 ~ What does Paul repeat? Why do you think he repeats this?

1:9-10 ~ ‘I pray that God will punish always anyone who does that’. Paul is not happy. His words here sound very cruel. Why is Paul so sad and disappointed?

1:10 ~ Who does Paul want to make happy?

Remind yourself of the good news about Christ. (Perhaps you are not sure. Then look at what you read last time.)

The new teachers said something new. We all like to learn something new. Sometimes people say new ideas about Christ today. Talk about what we should do.

Paul is sad and disappointed because of the Christians in Galatia. They have listened to wrong ideas. He shows anger because this frightens him. Talk about whether he is right about this. Find other examples of this kind of anger. (You could look at Mark 3:1-6 and Mark 11:15-18.)
