Isaac and Rebekah – Genesis 24
Abraham was now a very old man.
God had blessed Abraham all his life.
Abraham wanted Isaac to marry
a girl from his own country.
He sent his servant to find a wife for Isaac.
The servant took lots of presents.
He went to a town called Nahor.
Outside the town there was a well.
The people of Nahor went there to get their water.
The servant prayed to God. He said,
“Show me the girl you want to be Isaac’s wife.
I will ask for a drink.
The girl who gives my camels a drink as well
is the girl you want to be Isaac’s wife.”
A girl called Rebekah came to the well.
She was one of Nahor’s family.
Nahor was Abraham’s brother.
Rebekah was a very pretty girl.
The servant asked her for a drink.
She gave him and his camels a drink.
So the servant knew Rebekah was the right girl.
The servant thanked God for helping find the girl.
He thanked God that she was from Abraham’s family.
He was very happy. He gave Rebekah a gold ring.
Rebekah took the servant to her father’s house.
Rebekah’s father was called Bethuel.
She had a brother called Laban.
The servant told them that he had come
to find a wife for Abraham’s son Isaac.
Bethuel and Laban were very pleased.
They said that Rebekah could be Isaac’s wife.
The servant gave them all presents.
The next day Rebekah’s family said goodbye to her.
They blessed her.
Rebekah went with Abraham’s servant.
They went home to Abraham’s house.
Isaac was in the fields praying to God.
He saw Rebekah and the servant.
He went to meet them.
He liked Rebekah.
Isaac and Rebekah got married.
They were very happy.
