Jesus is condemned to die – Luke 22:63-23:25

When Jesus was taken to the leader’s house, the guards beat him.
They said bad things to him.
The leaders and teachers said to Jesus,
“If you are the one God sent, tell us.”
Jesus said, “If I tell you, you will not believe me.
But soon I will be seated at the right hand of God.”
They asked, “Are you the Son of God?”
“You are right, I am”, replied Jesus.

For anyone to say he was the Son of God was a very bad thing.
That is what the leaders thought.

The leaders said, “We do not want to hear any more.”
The leaders took Jesus to the ruler who was more powerful than they were.
His name was Pontius Pilate.
They told him, “This man claims to be the King.”
The ruler asked Jesus some questions.
He could not find anything wrong with him.
He sent Jesus to the King whose name was Herod.
Herod asked Jesus many questions. Jesus did not answer the questions.
Herod and his soldiers made a fool of Jesus.
They were very cruel to him. They dressed him in a purple robe.
Herod sent Jesus back to Pilate.
Pilate sent for the leaders and the people.
“Neither Herod nor I can find anything wrong with this man.
He is not guilty of a crime deserving death.
I will punish him and let him go free”, he said.

The crowds shouted, “Let Barabbas go free!” Barabbas was a murderer.
Pilate wanted to set Jesus free.
The crowd shouted loudly, “Crucify him!”

Pilate tried again but they demanded that Jesus be killed.
So Pilate granted their wish.
He sent Jesus to be crucified.
