Jesus teaches some more – Matthew 5:21-48
Jesus said, “You know that it is wrong to kill someone.
I say, ‘Do not even be angry with anyone
without a very good reason.’
When you go to church,
if you remember that you did something wrong,
go back and say you are sorry.
Then go to church.
If the things that you look at are wrong things,
it would be better not to have eyes.
If you do wrong things with your hands,
it would be better not to have hands.
It is better to lose one part of your body than to go to Hell.
Anyone who divorces his wife except for adultery
makes her an adulteress if she marries again.
Anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Do not take oaths.
Make your Yes really mean Yes.
And make your No really mean No.
Be truthful.
The Law of Moses in the Old Testament says,
‘If someone hurts you, you can pay them back.’
I say, ‘Do not pay back wrong for wrong.’
Do not just love your friends.
Love your enemies, be kind to them and pray for them.
God makes the sun shine and the rain fall on everyone,
good people and bad people.
If you are only good to people who are good to you,
there is no reward for that.
Even bad people do that.
Treat people as you would like to be treated.
Then you will become the kind of people God wants.”
