God wants us to give to him. It might even cause us to go without things. God knows what is in our hearts. He understands when we do not have very much money. And he understands when poor people love him very much.

21:4 How did the wealthy people give to God? How did the widow give to God? How much did the widow have left after she had given to God?

21:1-4 What interests God most? Does he look at what we give? Or does he look at what we have left afterwards?

Final remarks

Jesus was aware of everything that happened round him. He also understood the reason why people did things. The widow gave to God because she loved him. That meant more to Jesus than the greater amount of money that the richer people gave. He knows when we sacrifice something for him. He will bless us when we sacrifice for him. What we give God is often an expression of how much we love God.

Thank you Jesus that you always know what is in my heart. You understand when I cannot give you very much. I am so glad that you understand. And you know that I love you. Help me to give to you because I love you. Help me to give to you as the widow did. Help me to trust you when I do not have very much. Amen.
