The hole in the roof
An EasyEnglish Story Unit (AEE) from Luke's Good News

One day Jesus was in a house.
There were a lot of people inside the house.
There were many people outside the house.
Some men came to find Jesus.
They brought their friend.
Their friend was very ill.
The men had to carry their friend on a mattress.
They could not get into the house to see Jesus.
There were too many people.
The men carried their friend up on to the flat roof.
They took some tiles off the roof.
They made a hole in the roof.
Then the men let their friend down on the mattress.
They let him down through the hole in the roof.
The men believed that Jesus could make their friend well.
When Jesus saw what they did, he said to the man,
"Get up, take your mattress and go home."
At once the man got up, picked up the mattress and went home.
He thanked and praised God.
The people were amazed at what had happened.
They said, "What marvellous things we have seen today."
