Isaiah says there will be good news

Isaiah was a man who lived about 700 years before Jesus.

Isaiah wrote a book.

God helped Isaiah to write his book.

The book was about what God would do in the future.

In his book Isaiah wrote:

God’s Spirit rules my life.

God has chosen me.

God has sent me with a message.

The message is one of good news.

I must give the message to people who are weak.

God will be kind to us.

God will punish our enemies.

My job is to heal people who have broken hearts.

My job is to tell prisoners they are free.

My job is to comfort people who are sad.

I will take away their sadness.

I will give them loveliness instead.

I will take away their tears.

I will give them joy instead.

I will take away their broken hearts.

I will give them praise instead.

God will make them strong and beautiful.

He will do this to bring honour to himself.

Remember that Isaiah was writing this about someone in the future.

Later in the Bible a man called Luke tells us:

Jesus went back to a town called Nazareth.

He had lived in Nazareth when he was a boy.

On God’s day he went to the meeting place.

He always went to the meeting place on God’s day.

Jesus stood up to read from the Bible.

He read from Isaiah’s book.

He read:

God’s Spirit rules my life.

God has chosen me.

God has sent me with a message.

The message is one of good news.

I must give the message to people who are weak.

My job is to heal people who have broken hearts.

My job is to tell prisoners they are free.

My job is to comfort people who are sad.

God is ready to give good things to people who come to him.

Jesus closed the book.

He gave the book back to the man in charge.

Jesus spoke to everybody at the meeting.

He said:

‘Isaiah was talking about me.

His words have come true now.’

Isaiah had said there would be good news.

What Isaiah had written came true in Jesus.
