Jesus Comes Back to Life

Reference

Mark 16:1-8

Introduction

The Sabbath began at sunset on Friday and it finished at sunset on Saturday. Jews did not work on the Sabbath. It was against their rules. The women went to buy special seeds and oils that have a good smell. People usually put those things on a body before they buried it. The women wanted to do that to the body of Jesus. There was not time to do it on Friday. So they went to do it on Sunday. They went as soon as there was enough light.

They saw that someone had already moved the big stone away from the hole. They went into the hole in the rock and they saw a young man. He was one of God's special messengers called angels. He knew that the women were looking for the body of Jesus. He told them that Jesus had become alive again. The man showed them where Jesus’ body had been.

He told the women what to do next. He said that they must go to Jesus' disciples and to Peter. The women must take a message to them. Jesus would meet them in Galilee as he had promised them. Mark records this promise (Mark 14:28). Peter would be very happy when he heard that message. It would show that Jesus still loved Peter very much. Then the women ran away. They did not understand what had happened. They were very afraid. So they did not say anything to anyone.
