The story of Cain and Abel – Genesis 4:1-16

The first two children
Adam and Eve had were boys.
The first son was named Cain.
When Cain grew up he was a farmer.
The second son was named Abel.
When Abel grew up he looked after sheep.

One day Cain and Abel brought presents to God.
Cain brought some of the fruit he had grown.
Abel brought the first lamb born that year.
God was very pleased with Abel’s present.
God was not pleased with Cain’s present.

Cain was very angry.
God said to Cain,
“Why are you angry? Do good things.
You will be all right.
If you do not do what is right
you will not be happy.
You must be sorry for being angry.
You must say sorry to your brother Abel.”

But Cain was not sorry.
He said to Abel,
“Come for a walk in the fields.”
When they were in the fields, Cain hit Abel.
He killed Abel.

God asked Cain,
“Where is Abel?”
Cain said he did not know. He told a lie.
He was not sorry for what he had done.
He was not sorry he had killed Abel.

God knew what Cain had done.
God was very angry.
He made Cain leave his farm.
He had no home.
God was not his friend.
Cain went to live in a country called Nod.
