Jesus chooses his first disciples – Luke 5:1-11
One day Jesus stood beside the lake.
People were crowding around him.
They pushed each other.
They wanted to get near to Jesus.
They wanted him to tell them about God.
Jesus saw two boats on the beach.
The fishermen were washing their nets.
Jesus got into one of the boats.
It was Peter's boat.
Jesus asked Peter to push the boat into the water.
Then Jesus sat in the boat and spoke to the people.
He told them about God.
After that, Jesus told Peter to take the boat out into deeper water.
"Let your nets down now", Jesus said.
"We have fished all night and we caught nothing", said Peter.
"But if you say so, I will put the nets back into the water."
He put the nets into the water and caught a lot of fish.
There were so many fish that the net nearly broke.
They called their friends in the other boat to help them.
Soon both boats were full of fish.
The boats were so full that they almost sank.
When Peter saw what had happened he knelt down.
He said to Jesus, "Go away from me Lord.
I am not a good man, I am a sinner."
The other fishermen, James and John, were amazed.
Jesus said, "Don't be afraid.
You will not be catching fish now.
You will be fishing for men."
They pulled the boats up on to the beach.
They left everything and went with Jesus.
