A man climbed a tree to see Jesus – Luke 19:1-10
Jesus was walking through town.
A man who collected money from the people lived there.
He was a tax collector. He cheated people.
He took too much tax money from them.
He was very rich.
His name was Zacchaeus.
The man wanted to see Jesus.
He was a very small man.
He could not see over the crowds of people.
They were bigger than he was.
The little man had an idea.
He climbed up into a tree.
Now he could see Jesus as he came along the road.
Jesus stopped right at the tree.
Jesus looked up and the little man looked down.
Jesus said, "Zacchaeus, come down.
Today I am coming to your house."
The man was so pleased.
He came down the tree.
The crowds of people were not happy.
"Jesus has gone to visit a bad man", they said.
The man said to Jesus, "I will give half of
my money to poor people.
If I took too much money from anybody,
I will pay back four times as much."
The man was sorry he had done so many wrong things.
Jesus said, "I came to look for
and to save people who had done wrong things."
