Jesus is nailed to a cross – John 19:16-42
Jesus was taken outside.
He had to carry a heavy cross.
Then Jesus was nailed to the cross.
Two other men, one on each side were crucified.
Jesus was on the middle cross.
Pilate wrote a notice.
It said,
‘Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.’
Many people read the notice.
The leaders did not like it.
They said, “Don’t write King of the Jews.’
Just write he said he was the King of the Jews.”
But the notice was not changed.
After the soldiers had nailed Jesus to the cross they took his clothes.
They shared them out between them.
Jesus had a very good coat.
“Do not tear it”, said the soldiers.
“Let us throw a dice to see who wins it.”
Jesus’ mother stood near the cross.
Her friends were with her.
Jesus asked his friend John to look after his mother.
Then Jesus said, “It is finished.”
He bowed his head and died.
A soldier put a sword into Jesus’ side.
Blood and water came pouring out from Jesus’ side.
A man who believed in Jesus took his body.
He and a friend put Jesus’ body in a new tomb.
The tomb was in a garden.
A big stone was rolled across the entrance to the tomb.
