The weeds in the field – Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

Jesus told this story:

A farmer planted some good wheat seed in his field.
An enemy came into that field.
He planted weeds amongst the good seed.

When the wheat began to grow, the weeds grew too.
The farmer’s servant wanted to pull out all the weeds.

The farmer said, “No. Let them grow together.
If we pull out the weeds, we may pull out some of the wheat with them.
Leave them until harvest time when they are fully grown.
Then collect the weeds and burn them.
Gather the wheat into my barns.”

Jesus’ friends did not understand the story.
“Please tell us what it means”, they asked.

Jesus said, “The field is like the world.
The good seeds are like God’s children.
The weeds are like those who are not God’s people.

The harvest time is like the end of time, when Jesus comes.
The angels will take out all that is evil and sinful.
It will all be destroyed.
There will be weeping and wailing.
God’s children will live happily in God’s Kingdom.
He who has ears, let him listen and hear.”
