Jesus told his followers to eat bread and wine when they remember his death. The Apostle Paul said:
On the night that Judas handed Jesus over to his enemies, Jesus took bread. When he had given thanks, he broke the bread. He said, ‘This is my body, which I give for you. Do this in memory of me.’
In the same way, after supper, he took the cup of wine. He said, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Whenever you drink the wine, do it in memory of me.’ You eat the bread and you drink the wine. Whenever you do that, you are telling everyone about the Lord’s death. You will do this until he comes again. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
