Mary Read

Mary Read was a professional writer who welcomed the chance of using her writing skills in the furtherance of the gospel. She joined the EasyEnglish team at its very outset, and took up the work of translating published Christian books.
At age 11, in Kenya, Mary had a dream: to be a translator! Many years later, she became a Founder Member of EasyEnglish. She translated existing study books into EasyEnglish:
Her first, during the period 1999-2010 was translating the Collins Little Gem Bible Guide into Easy English. After that she re-wrote several of Rev Raymond Brown's Christian books into EE. She knew Raymond Brown personally and had been impressed and influenced by his work. The titles translated include: Their Problems and Ours, Four Giants of the Faith, and Be My Disciple. She was able to consult with Raymond Brown and have him check that her work was true to the original. He was very happy to have his work widely available on the EasyEnglish website.
Mary translated an evangelistic booklet, God's Free Gift, into EasyEnglish at the request of The Seamen's Christian Friend Society for distribution to seamen of various nationalities, whose first language was not English.
Following a request from the EasyEnglish team, she also translated some Bible Commentaries into EasyEnglish. The EasyEnglish Word Book (a new EasyEnglish Lexicon) was her outstanding contribution to the work of EasyEnglish.
