Jesus Feeds 4000 Men

Reference

Mark 8:1-12

Introduction

In Mark 6:30-44, Jesus fed 5000 men. This was for Jews who lived in Israel. In Mark 8: 1-12 Jesus was not in Israel. And he was going to feed people who were not Jews.

People wanted to see Jesus even when he was not in his own country. And they wanted to listen to what he said.

These two special events tell us that Jesus was very powerful. They also show that he loved the people.

This event does not mean that Jesus will always use a special event to help us. He teaches us something that is very important. What he says is true. So people believe him and follow him. Then he will always help them.

Questions to ask

(v2) How much did people want to hear Jesus?

(v2-3) The people wanted to learn, more than they wanted to eat. How did Jesus help them?

(v4) The disciples had seen Jesus feed 5000 men before. Why did they not understand that Jesus could do it again?

(v6) What did the crowd think when Jesus said 'thank you' to God for the food?

(v6-8) There were 7 loaves when Jesus started. How much was there at the end of the meal?

(v4-10) What lessons did the disciples learn?

(v2-10) What lessons did the people learn? What lessons do we need to learn?

(v11) Why did the Pharisees argue with Jesus?

(v12) Why was Jesus sad?

Something to do

In verses 11 and 12 the Pharisees saw the special event. But they still did not believe that what Jesus said was true. What do we need, that will help us to believe in Jesus?

We can thank God for our food, every time that we have a meal.
