1 Corinthians

About Paul's first letter to the Corinthians

Paul wrote this letter to the Christians at Corinth city. Corinth was an important, busy port in the country that now we call Greece. Paul had stayed at Corinth for 18 months. Many people became Christians while he was there. Most of the Christians there were Gentiles. While Paul was with them, he explained God's message to them. See Acts 18:11.
We think that Paul wrote this letter in about the year AD 54. That was about 20 years after Jesus died.
After he had left Corinth, Paul heard news about some problems among the Christians there. Also, the Christians at Corinth had written a letter to Paul to ask him questions about certain things. See 1 Corinthians 7:1.
In this letter, Paul answers some questions that the Corinthian Christians had asked. He explains why the Christians were thinking in the wrong way about some things. He tells them how they should live to please God.
