1 Corinthians

About Paul's first letter to the Corinthians

Paul wrote this letter to the Christians at Corinth city. Corinth was an important, busy port in the country that we call Greece now. Paul had stayed at Corinth for 18 months, and many people became Christians. Most of the Christians there were Gentiles. While Paul was with them, he explained God's message to them. See Acts 18:11.
We think that Paul wrote this letter about the year AD 54. That was more than 20 years after Jesus died.
After he had left Corinth, Paul heard news about some problems among the Christians there. Also, the Christians at Corinth had written a letter to Paul to ask him questions about certain things. See 1 Corinthians 7:1.
In this letter, Paul answers the questions that the Corinthian Christians had asked about. He explains why they are wrong about some things. He tells them how they should live to please God.
