Live with God’s Spirit in you

Bible verse: Galatians 5:16-26

A word list at the end of each Bible study explains words that have a *star by them. These are more difficult words.

Introduction

Christians must live as free *people. Paul now writes more about how to live like this.

Sometimes *people live as they want to. Then difficulties happen. Paul writes some of these difficulties in a list. But Christians have *God’s Spirit in them. This helps them to do good. The rules cannot help us to do good. Paul writes another list.

So we must let *God’s Spirit live in us. We have to work to obey *God’s Spirit. It does not just happen. We want God’s Spirit in our lives because we follow Christ.

Questions

Vv16-20 ~ What difficulties does Paul write in his list? Why do *people allow these problems to happen?

V21 ~ What else happens when *people do wrong?

Vv22-23 ~ What good fruit does Paul write in his list?

V22 ~ What causes *people to become ‘good fruit’?

V24 ~ Paul uses the same strong word twice. What is this word? Why has Paul chosen to use this word here?

V25 ~ ‘We live by *God’s Spirit. What does Paul say
that this means?

V26 ~ What three things must we not do?

Something to do

Many *people think that they are free *people. So they do what they want. Talk about what might be the result of this. Talk about any example that you know.

Perhaps you did not want to do something. And perhaps you did it because it was right. This was because *God’s Spirit was in you. If possible, talk about when you did this.

Sometimes we still do what we want. We do not listen to *God’s Spirit. And then we may be in trouble. Talk about what we might do next.

In Paul’s list, what do you want most in your life? Think about what you might do about this.

Words to explain
