Jesus in the garden

An EasyEnglish Story Unit (AEE) from Matthew’s Good News

Joyce Ferrie

Jesus went for a walk after supper.

His friends went with him.

Jesus said to his friends,

“Tonight you will all run away.

You will run away and leave me.”

His friend Peter said, “I will never leave you.”

Jesus said, “This very night, before the cock crows,

you will say you do not know me.

You will say it 3 times.”

Jesus and his friends walked in a garden.

He told his friends to sit down and wait for him.

He wanted to go to a quiet place to pray.

Jesus was very sad.

He knew that he would be killed.

He wanted to do what God wanted but he was afraid.

His friends slept.

Suddenly a large crowd came into the garden.

They had swords in their hands.

Judas was with them.

He showed them where Jesus was.

They arrested Jesus.

He said, “Why did you come for me with swords?

Every day I sat in the church.

I told people about God and you did not arrest me.”

They took Jesus away.

All his friends ran away and left him.

Matthew 26:30-56.
