A rich young man

An EasyEnglish Story Unit (AEE) from Matthew’s Good News

Joyce Ferrie

One day, a man came to see Jesus.

He asked, “What must I do to get a place in heaven?”

“Do what God has told you to do.

Do not murder. Do not steal.

Love other people as much as you love yourself”, replied Jesus.

“I do all these things. What else do I need to do?” asked the man.

Jesus said, “Go and sell all you have and give the money away.

Give the money to poor people.

Then come and follow me.”

When the young man heard this, he felt sad.

He was very rich.

He did not want to give his money away.

Jesus’ friend Peter said, “We have left everything and followed you.”

Jesus answered, “Everyone who has left anything for my sake will receive a hundred times more.”

Matthew 19:16-22, 27-29.
