The man who would not forgive

An EasyEnglish Story Unit (AEE) from Matthew’s Good News

Joyce Ferrie

Jesus told a story:

Once there was a king. He had many servants.

One of his servants owed him a lot of money.

The servant could not pay it back.

The king ordered that the servant and his family be sold as slaves.

The servant begged the king to give him more time.

“I will try to pay you what I owe”, he said.

The king felt very sorry for the servant.

He let him off.

He did not have to pay his debt.

As he went out, the servant saw another man.

This man owed him a very small amount of money.

“Pay me what you owe me”, he shouted.

The man begged him to give him time to pay.

The servant had the man thrown into prison.

The other servants were very sad about this.

They told the king.

The king was very angry. He called the servant.

“You owed me a lot of money and I let you off.

I forgave you.

You should have been kind to that man who owed you a little money.

You should have forgiven him and let him go.”

The king sent the servant to prison

because he did not forgive the other man.

Jesus said, “You also must forgive people.”

Matthew 18:23-35.
