The farmer plants his seeds

Jesus told this story:

One day a farmer planted some seeds.

He threw the seeds on to the soil.

Some seeds fell on the path and the birds ate them.

Some seeds fell on the stones.

They grew for a little while.

Then they died because there was no soil.

Some seeds fell into the weeds.

They could not grow.

There were too many weeds.

Some seeds fell on good soil.

They grew into strong plants.

Jesus’ friends said, ‘We don’t understand.

What does the story mean?’

Jesus said to them:

‘The farmer is like someone who tells us about God.

His words are like the seed.

He tells us how to grow into good people for God.

The birds took some seeds and did not let them grow.

They are like people who don’t want us to follow God.

They don’t want us to think about God.

The seeds on the stones make us think too.

They make us think of people who don’t listen.

They don’t listen to God’s message.

When people laugh at them, they stop believing in God.

What are the seeds in the weeds like?

They make us think of people too.

People who want to do too many other things.

They have no time for God.

The best seeds are like people who really love God.

They know they should do what God says.

They will grow into good people who obey God’.
