Isaiah talks about the Holy Spirit

Isaiah was a man who lived about 700 years before Jesus.

Isaiah wrote a book.

God helped Isaiah to write his book.

The book was about what God would do in the future.

In his book Isaiah wrote:

The land is dry and needs water.

God will pour out water on the land.

He will pour out lots of water.

Then plants will grow in the desert.

The desert will be rich with flowers.

The desert will be rich with fruit.

People are thirsty for God’s Holy Spirit.

God will pour out his Holy Spirit onto people.

He will pour down his blessings from heaven.

Then there will be fairness in the world.

There will be peace for ever.

Later in the Bible a man called Luke wrote:

Jesus suffered and died.

Then he came to life again.

He proved to his friends that he was alive again.

He met them many times.

He said to them:

‘Stay in Jerusalem.

Wait here till God sends you his Holy Spirit.

In a few days he will send his Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit will give you power.

Then you will tell everybody about me.

You will tell everybody in the world.’

Then Jesus disappeared into a cloud.

His friends kept looking up at the sky.

They could not see Jesus any more.

Ten days later all of Jesus’ friends were together.

Suddenly there was a noise from heaven.

It sounded like a strong wind.

It filled the house where they were.

They saw some strange things.

The strange things looked like tongues made of fire.

These tongues landed on the friends’ heads.

Everybody in the room was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Everybody began to speak in languages they hadn’t learnt.

The Holy Spirit made them able to speak these languages.

They had power.

They were able to tell everybody in the world about Jesus.

Isaiah had said that God would send his Holy Spirit.

Jesus had said that God would send his Holy Spirit.

Isaiah and Jesus both said the same thing.

God did send his Holy Spirit.

What Isaiah and Jesus said came true.
