Light of the World
An EasyEnglish Story Unit (AEE) from our series ‘Isaiah Looks Forward’

Light of the world
Isaiah was a man who lived about 700 years before Jesus.
Isaiah wrote a book.
God helped Isaiah to write his book.
The book was about what God would do in the future.
In his book Isaiah wrote:
Everybody used to live in darkness.
They could not see the right way to live.
The world was full of evil and sin.
The evil and sin made the world dark.
But now a very bright light has begun to shine.
The people have seen that bright light.
Jesus met a man.
The man was blind.
The man had always been blind.
Jesus’ friends said to Jesus:
‘Why is this man blind?
Did he do something wrong?
Or did his parents do something wrong?’
Jesus answered:
‘He is not blind because he did something wrong.
He is not blind because his parents did something wrong.
This is why he is blind:
God wants to do something wonderful for him.
God wants the man to see.
God wants to bring light to the man’s eyes.
God wants you to see this happen.
He wants you to understand.
He wants to bring light to your minds.
I bring light to this dark world.’
Then Jesus spat on the ground.
He made some mud.
He rubbed the mud on the blind man’s eyes.
He said to the blind man:
‘Go and wash in the pool.’
The man went and washed in the pool.
He came back.
He could see.
Jesus had made the man see.
Jesus had brought light to the man’s eyes.
Jesus brings light to the world.
Isaiah had said that a bright light would shine in the darkness.
What Isaiah had written came true in Jesus.
